SEVENTEEN is a South-Korean boy band formed under Pledis Entertainment. There are thirteen members in the group: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino. The band debuted with EP 17 Carat on May 26, 2015.
Their album shortly became the longest-charting K-pop album of the year in the US. The group is considered a ‘self-producing’ idol group with the members being the songwriters, choreographers, rappers, vocalists, and other aspects of bands. The group is nicknamed “Performance Kings”, “Theater Kids of K-Pop”, and “K-Pop Performance Powerhouse'” by various media outlets.
Their group name, SEVENTEEN is explained as “13 members + 3 units + 1 group”, acting as 13 individual members from 3 different units, hip-hop, vocal, and performance who form a single group.
The hip-hop teams include S. Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon. The Vocal team consists of Woozy, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK / Dokyeom, and Seungkwan. The performance team includes Hoshi, Jun, The8, and Dino.
Having received global fame with their power-packed performances the group has also received various accolades including APAN Music Awards, Asia Model Awards, Asia Artist Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and Ten Asia Global Top Ten Awards.
