Once again, Cardi B and her makeup crew have succeeded. The singer launched a music video for her single “Up” on Friday, February 5, and in classic Cardi fashion, she went above and beyond with her beauty game, donning a total of seven distinct looks during the song. Naturally, she looks great in the video, but everyone is talking about her hair rather than her cosmetics or nails. And she owes it all to Tokyo Stylez, her go-to wig designer.

Let’s now go through each appearance. One of Cardi B’s most well-known looks may be seen in the opening scene: a knee-length fishtail braid decorated with black flowers and crosses. On Instagram, Stylez referred to it as the “black rose tail braid” and described her inspiration for the style.

Her tamest appearance of them all must be a bombshell blowout with large waves. We have often seen her wear this timeless look throughout the years. She amps things up in the next scene with an auburn wig that is covered in real Barbie doll heads. That’s right, Stylez even provided a behind-the-scenes peek at how she made the famous wig on her TikTok, and according to what we could gather, it was a lengthy process.

A platinum-blonde wig and lime-green eyeshadow give Cardi casually lounging in a clamshell pose – a clamshell — a very mermaid-like appearance. She then returns to having long, silky black hair with a stylish bouffant in the front for drama. Stylez offered the rapper a sculptural hairdo with a headpiece by artist Lory Sun for her final appearance. The hairdresser claims Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, one of her favorite female rappers, served as inspiration. Stylez describes the appearance in her post, saying, “She was so ahead of her time with fashion and hair.”
