The renowned football player Cristiano Ronaldo left the Portuguese national team camp abruptly. On September 30, 2026, the sportsman took to his Instagram handle to announce the news, promising to reveal the reason soon while extending his support for Portugal and his team in the upcoming tournament.
In his note, Ronaldo detailed that, following his conversation with the head coach Jorge Jesus and President of the Portuguese Football Federation Pedro Proença, he has decided to leave the camp: “After the press conference of the National Team coach, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the National Team camp.”
Promising to reveal the reason and truth behind his decision, he said, “In due time, I will tell all the Portuguese about the reasons that motivated my departure from the national team, which I always dedicated myself to. Now it’s time to wish good luck to Portugal and all my teammates, without exception.”
However, according to the Portuguese media, Ronaldo made the big decision after disagreements with the head coach and president of the Football Federation.
Reportedly, the relationship between Ronaldo and the head coach soured on Sunday when Ronaldo was left as an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway. Visibly frustrated, the captain refused to celebrate on the pitch with the team at the final whistle, heading straight to the changing rooms. The situation intensified on Wednesday when Jorge Jesus held a press conference in Copenhagen and confirmed that AC Milan striker Gonçalo Ramos would start ahead of Ronaldo against Denmark, BBC Sport.
As the news went viral, Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, addressed it publicly, claiming her brother has been mistreated.
Defending her brother, Elma shared an explosive fan text on Instagram with the caption “enough said,” calling out the federation, the media, and the fan base for a perceived lack of respect toward the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
On Instagram, the sportsman’s sister wrote, “CR7 deserved more respect as the national team deserved more structure… and Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation. As for the Portuguese people, well… they don’t deserve to have the best at anything.”
She further added, “We are envious, disdainful, ignorant, and we deserve to return to the mediocrity we always had in football before Cristiano. Thank you for everything, CR7! You deserved more!”
