The internet has been abuzz with the news about Delhi Capitals’ cricketer Abishek Porel—reportedly the wicketkeeper-batter was arrested by the Bengal Police on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The cricketer was detained in connection with a rape case filed by a medical student, as per the PTI report.
Following the complaint, Abishek was taken into custody in Hoogly and formally arrested after being questioned with the 23-year-old. He was even sent for a medical examination after which he was brought before the Chinsurah Court.
Reportedly, a woman filed the complaint at Mogra Police Station alleging that Abishek got physical with her with the promise of marrying her. The woman also accused the cricketer of criminal intimidation and recording intimate moments. The matter is still under investigation.
The arrest happened a week after the Calcutta High Court directed Bengal Police to arrest Porel in connection with the case.
In the matter, the police have seized electronic devices of the cricketer and another person involved in the matter to secure the proofs as alleged by the complainant, and they have been sent for forensic examination.
In her complaint, the woman also accused Abishek of threatening her to make her private videos and photos public.
Reportedly, the woman came in contact with the cricketer in 2023, and their relationship led to marriage discussions. However, the complainant claimed she was assaulted and confined during an incident in April, 2026 and was also denied food and medical attention. However, these allegations haven’t been proven.
