The Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana had successful knee surgery on February 9, 2026, after sustaining a lateral meniscus tear during a warm-up match against South Africa. India faces a major setback to its bowling strength, as Mohammed Siraj will replace him in the squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The 24-year-old suffered the injury on February 4 in Navi Mumbai while bowling his only over in the warm-up fixture. Rana left the field after showing difficulty with his run-up and was forced to leave with a right knee injury, raising concerns about his fitness.
Medical professionals reached their conclusion through clinical evaluations and medical examinations, which showed that he had fluid buildup and a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, a well-known orthopaedic surgeon, recommended surgery to address his medical needs following the February 6 consultation. Rana used Instagram to announce his successful surgery and update fans on his rehabilitation.

The injury occurs during a vital period for both Rana and Indian cricket. The young pacer needs a three- to four-month break from the game, creating uncertainty about his availability for the IPL 2026 season. His recovery period will prevent him from competing in one of cricket’s most significant tournaments and may also jeopardise his participation in a major domestic league.
Mohammed Siraj has joined India’s pace attack. Rana’s absence will significantly impact the team, as he has become a crucial bowler in India’s plans. He needs to focus on his rehabilitation process, which will help him achieve full recovery before he starts his next international assignments.
