Chess as a sport has been extremely popular all over the globe. Not just all over the globe, India in particular is one country which is known to have produced some of the best chess players and grandmasters. The likes of Vishwanathan Anand and others have already made the country proud at a global level when it comes to the sport of chess. Often, we have seen instances of young grandmasters shocking other world champions to win important games. Well, a similar instance happened once again.

Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi on Sunday got all the spotlight, beating world champion Magnus Carlsen in round seven of the preliminaries of the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament. Erigaisi won three straight games, beating Nils Grandelius (Sweden), Daniel Naroditsky (USA) and Carlsen before settling for a draw against Jan-Krzyszstof Duda (Poland). He has 15 points and is in fifth place behind Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov (17 points), Shahkriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) and Carlsen (both 16) and Duda (15).

We at IWMBuzz congratulate Arjun and we wish he continues to play well and stun others. Let us know your views in the comments section below and for more updates, stay tuned to IWMBuzz.com
