A disheartening moment for sportsman Neeraj Chopra, as the Indian javelin thrower has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 season after he suffered an ankle injury during training.
Because of the unfortunate injury, the two-time Olympic medalist is out of the Asian Games and the Diamond League Final, leading to the premature end of his campaign while he was finding his rhythm.
Chopra had shown promising signs at the Lausanne Diamond League, producing a season’s best throw in his third competitive outing.
However, on August 29, 2026, Chopra announced that he was ruled out of the Asian Games and the rest of the 2026 season. Asian Games are scheduled to start next month in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
In his post, the sportsman revealed, “After a period of hard work, I finally felt I was gaining the momentum I had been looking for with a Season’s Best throw in Lausanne.”
Chopra shared, “Unfortunately, shortly after, I sustained a ligament tear in my ankle during training. After discussions with my doctor and team, we’ve decided that I will sit out the rest of this season. It’s disappointing, especially because I felt close to finding my rhythm. But as they say, setbacks are a part of the journey.”
Speaking about his focus now, Chopra said, “My focus now is on recovering well and coming back even stronger. Thank you all for the love and support.”
