The Delhi Family Court ordered Aesha Mukherjee to return about ₹5.72 crore which equals $894,397 AUD as a legal victory for former Indian cricket player Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday. The Patiala House Court decision which Judge Devender Kumar Garg delivered established a crucial legal win for the cricketer who has battled a financial conflict since his divorce.
The court ordered Mukherjee to return all earnings she obtained from selling Australian properties which she kept after receiving her “interim property settlement” with the court. The judge ruled that Indian courts cannot enforce Australian court property settlement orders because they contradict Hindu Marriage Act and Indian public policy requirements. The court accepted Dhawan’s assertion that he executed financial contracts with Mukherjee under threats and fraudulent circumstances so these contracts were declared invalid.
Mukherjee must pay 9% yearly interest on the principal sum which she must pay back from the time the lawsuit started until she completes payment. The judgment creates an important legal standard which courts must follow when they handle international marriage cases between Indian nationals.
Dhawan achieved this legal success just after he started a new phase in his personal life. He married his girlfriend Sophie Shine in a private wedding ceremony which took place in Delhi-NCR on February 21 2026. Aesha Mukherjee received a divorce from Dhawan because he cited “mental cruelty” as his reason in October 2023.
The cricketer has reached a major career milestone through these two simultaneous events which attract media attention to his activities outside of cricket.
