Shubman Gill has been dropped from India’s T20 World Cup squad. The cricketer was in a tough spot, with his not-so-satisfactory score in recent formats, which prompted the selectors to take the call. He passed 18 T20I innings without scoring a big, which led to him missing the T20 World Cup.

The current Squad stands at

Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel (vice-capt), Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan (wk)—(Source: Sportstar)

The team recently played their T20I series against South Africa, where Gill could not deliver a grand performance either, scoring very little. Which brought him to question whether he should remain relatable and relevant to be at the top of the order. Earlier, Gill’s 28-ball 47 against Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2025 brought him back to T20I. However, later on, Shubman Gill could not maintain that consistency.

And now, with Gill’s absence, Sanju Samson is expected to open the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Gill was earlier the vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025.
