Virat Kohli is one of the most admired and loved cricketers that we are blessed to have in the country. Just when people thought we aren’t going to get another legend after Sachin Tendulkar’s heroics, Kohli burst into the scene in grand style and ever since then, he has been doing a terrific job, much to the happiness and delight of one and all. Although off-late, he hasn’t been in the best of forms ladies and gentlemen, he played a crucial knock against Pakistan in their second encounter of Asia Cup 2022 and we loved it. After the game, Virat made an explosive statement in the post match press conference where he revealed that MS Dhonu was the only one who had messaged him after he decided to step down as captain of the Test team.

Well now, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has come out to share his take on the matter. As per reports in Hindustan Times, he was quoted as saying,

“I don’t know what the dressing room inside-situation was with all these other players. Ideally, if he has named one person who got in touch, then maybe the other persons who didn’t get in touch should have also been named. That would have been a little bit fair to everybody concerned, rather than thinking that everybody else didn’t get in touch with him.”

He further added,

“What message did he want?” he questioned. “Encouragement? But then he is done with captaincy, so why would he need encouragement? That chapter (captaincy) is already closed. Now you are playing only as a cricketer. So focus on that role because when you are the captain, you think about and worry about your mates. Once the captaincy is over, it’s time to focus on your own game.”
