A major controversy erupted after the cricket team Sunrisers Leeds’ social media account got suspended. As per the reports, the team’s official X account was suspended following intense backlash over the signing of Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed for The Hundred.
The SunRisers franchise is owned by the Sun Group, an Indian media conglomerate that is headed by Kalanthi Maran, who volunteered to sign the Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed and got him for approximately 2.34 crore. During the Hundred auction, the CEO of the franchise, Kavya Maran, was present.
The signing of Abrar Ahmed marked a rare moment as it is the first time that a franchise with ties to the Indian Premier League has recruited a Pakistani cricketer. After the development, it quickly sparked debate among Indian cricket fans and netizens, with reactions pouring in across social media platforms.
Many slammed the SunRisers franchise, calling for a boycott of SRH in the IPL, and also, the Sunrisers Leeds X account cannot be accessed now. Whoever tries to check the handle sees the prompt, “Account suspended. X suspends accounts that violate the X rules.”

On the matter, there has been no explanation made or any statements released by the Sunrisers Leeds franchise. The situation continues to evolve as followers await further updates from all parties involved.
Sunrisers Leeds is fully owned by the Sun Group, who are the owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
