Spanish football club CD Tenerife confirmed the tragic passing of 30-year-old striker Jesús de Miguel with an official statement. The 30-year-old sportsman passed away on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026, following a severe on-field collision during a LaLiga 2 match.

The devastating incident occurred late in the 96th minute of stoppage time on Monday afternoon during Tenerife’s home fixture against FC Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López. With the score tied at 2-2, De Miguel chased a long ball into space near the center circle.

Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, when rushed far out of his box to clear the ball, collided with De Miguel, leaving him completely unconscious on the pitch, prompting players from both sides to wave medical staff onto the field frantically. Owono was immediately shown a straight red card, and the referee formally abandoned the match shortly after.

While the striker was rushed to the hospital and kept in intensive care, his condition worsened despite receiving treatment, leading to his death on Tuesday.

In a statement, the club said, “Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing of Jesus De Miguel Almeda. There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness.”

The club also stated, on behalf of the sportsman’s family: “The family of Jesus de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.”
