Mary Kom has inspired women all across the world, not only in India. She has brought honor to the country by winning six World Championships and an Olympic bronze medal.

Mangte Chungneijang is the true name of Mary Kom. In the year 1983, she was born in the Indian state of Manipur. Mangte Tonpa Kom and Mangte Akham Kom, her parents, were also jhum farmers. Mary had to overcome many obstacles and inconveniences to make a reputation for herself in the world of boxing while coming from a very poor family.

It was not an easy road to becoming a professional boxer. Mary had to keep her passion for boxing hidden from her family because her father was opposed to her entering the ring. When a photo of her succeeding in the state boxing title was published in the media, her father yelled at her. Mary Kom, a mother of twin sons, has six world records to her credit.

She was not born into a wealthy athletic family and hence did not have the opportunity to train with the greatest in the early stages of her career. Mary Kom gave birth to twins in 2007 after marrying in 2005. She took a short vacation after the birth of her children, but returned to training and was successful.
