Ranveer Singh and his team recreated the legendary 1983 World Cup triumph in Kabir Khan’s recently released ’83. The film received acclaim from all quarters, and it appears that cricket enthusiasts used it as an opportunity to relive the past. On LinkedIn, Priyaranjan Jha, Vice President Global Delivery Hubs at PepsiCo GBS, published a letter from the renowned Kapil Dev that he got as a child.

“Here is a true story,” he said at the outset of his piece. In addition, there are four #LifeLessons for the new year. A 9-year-old child penned a letter to his hero 39 years ago. This hero had had a fantastic year and was widely regarded as the finest all-rounder of all time. He’d won two “man of the series” honors in a row and was set to take over as captain of the Indian cricket team. The youngster requested a color photograph and an autograph from his hero. This isn’t a huge concern nowadays, in an era of instant communications and cloud-based photographs, but it was back then.

Everyone at his boarding school teased him, and the sniggers grew louder as the days and weeks went by. The child, on the other hand, had faith in his hero’s ability to respond. Then, nearly as soon as he had given up, he received this letter.

“That youngster was me, and the hero was Kapil Dev,” he went on to say, pointing out the life lessons. DREAM BIG, TRY AUDACIOUS THINGS, AND NEVER GIVE UP is the first life lesson. You can sense the man’s humility and concern for the small kid if you read the letter.

Life Lesson #2: ALWAYS STAY HUMBLE AND BE NICE TO THOSE WHO LOVE YOU, INCLUDING STRANGERS,” says Kapil.

“I was so moved by this letter that I have kept it with me for over four decades and read it from time to time to remind me of Life Lesson #3: YOU HAVE IMMENSE POWER TO INSPIRE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOU,” Jha said.

In less than 24 hours, Jha’s article on Kapil Dev drew a thunderous response on the site, with approximately 20,000 likes. He also included a photograph of the letter as well as a photograph provided to him by the great batsman in 1982.
