Everything begins with the work he’s done on the outskirts. “[Bridges] has by and large been the best wing defender in the NBA this season,” Basketball News’ Mark Schindler recently wrote. He routinely and effectively guards the best player on the opposing team.”

Bridges does an excellent job of using his seven-foot wingspan to stay attached to defenders and make their lives resemble a word that rhymes with “shell.”

Bridges balances this workload with offensive usage that is nearly identical to his career-high from last year – a primetime indicator of his motor strength. Because of his seemingly limitless tank, he can maintain a highly engaged defensive stance. Even when he’s not on the field, he’s bouncing around on the balls of his feet, ready to spring into action at any moment.

Bridges make up for a lot of the value he loses by not getting as many blocks and steals as his peers by playing great defense without fouling. Because it limits the opposing team’s free throws, this attribute may be even more valuable than their event creation (the most efficient shots in basketball).
