Former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar has all praises for the young duo of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya. Sunil Gavaskar predicts the duo as a replica of the success of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh in their time. In the early 2000s, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh were an important part of a remarkable match-winning partnership in Indian Cricket history. This includes their 54-run stand against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup finals.

Recently, as Pant and Pandya impressed everyone in the five wickets series-clinching win against England with 133 runs partnership, Gavaskar made an admiring prediction about the pair. The former captain Gavaskar predicts that Pandya and Pant can win many more matches like the iconic pair of Dhoni and Yuvraj did in the past.

Gavaskar, when asked about the duo replicating MS Dhoni and Yuvraj, said, “It can happen,” The kind of sixes Yuvraj and Dhoni used to hit, the way they steadied the innings, the way they ran between the wicket, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant can be that pair for India. And just like Dhoni and Yuvraj used to hit sixes, I hope Pandya and Pant can win the hearts of cricket fans.”

From 2005 to 2017, Dhoni and Yuvraj batted with each other for India on 67 occasions. They got 3105 runs at an average rate of 51.75, including ten centuries and 13 half centuries. The 158 runs partnership against Zimbabwe in 2005, 102 not out against Australia, and many other matches showed their iconic partnership. The 2017 ODIs was the highest partnership with a massive 256 runs at the fourth wicket, scoring a century.
