IPL is one of the best T20 format tournaments in the world of cricket, IPL has given us some of the best performances by players from all around the world. With all the matches piled up for the IPL 2021, IPL is going so far good. However, the match between RCB and KKR was canceled due to the Covid issue faced by many players. IPL honors and appreciates players with many awards with their respective goals achieved like the most runs in the IPL season, most wickets in the IPL season, Most Sixes Awards, Most Valuable Player, Man Of The Match awards. These prestigious awards are given to the player with these records every season, two of these awards are honored with a colored cap. The player with the most runs is awarded an orange cap and the player with the most wickets is awarded a purple cap.

The purple cap is announced after the orange cap to respect the bowlers just like the batsmen. If there ever happens a tie between two bowlers with the same wickets then the one with a better economy rate is considered as the purple cap holder.

“We have seen throughout the inaugural season of the League so far that bowlers have just as important a role to play in winning T20 matches as batsmen do” as said by the former commissioner and chairman of IPL Lalit Modi.

The first purple cap was awarded to the Pakistani Player Sohail Tanvir with 22 wickets in his 11 matches. The player with the most wickets taken in a season was Dwayne Bravo with his 32 wickets in the year 2015. He is also a 2-time purple holder. The same goes for Bhuvneshwar Kumar who claimed the cap in the years 2016, 2017.
