Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant equalled a world record during the first Test of the Test series against Australia with the eleventh catch that he took. The 21-year-old equalled the record of Jack Russell and AB de Villiers, both of whom had taken 11 catches in a Test match. Rishabh effectively got Mitchell Starc behind the wickets to rise to the record. He got six batsmen in the first innings and five in the following in transit to the world record.

Rishabh equalled the world record in the wake of Mitchell Starc’s catch off of Mohammed Shami’s ball in the second innings at the Adelaide Oval Stadium.

The others who managed to get this record were Jack Russell taking 11 catches against South Africa in 1995 and ABD taking 11 versus Pakistan in 2013. The only other Indians who came close to this record are MS Dhoni with 9 catches against Australia in 2014 and Wriddhiman Saha with 10 catches against South Africa.

On the same day, Pant also displayed how to not take a catch when dived for a catch on his left with his right hand going for it. If only he had used the Right hand itself, the record might have already been broken by him with 12 catches. In any case, cricket is a game of unpredictability, and hence, we can never know what will be the outcomes of a situation in a match.
