The 27-year-old has reached a golden patch and is in such good form that he overcame excruciating physical discomfort to score yet another superb century to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to a commanding victory against Kings XI Punjab in a rain-shortened IPL match in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Kohli, who had numerous stitches on his left hand owing to a split webbing during the last encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders, made a gesture toward it once he crossed the three-figure milestone in the 14th over. Kohli’s 113-run effort against KXIP on Wednesday set a number of IPL records that appear to have stood the test of time, at least for the time being.

Kohli currently holds the record for the most centuries scored by a batsman in a T20 event, with four tonnes in the IPL 2016. He had previously shared the record with Australian Michael Klinger, who made three centuries in four innings during the Natwest T20 Blast in 2015.

Kohli became the only batter to hit more than 800 runs in a single season when scoring his fourth century of the season. In 13 encounters, he has amassed an incredible 865 runs. He is now in possession of the Orange Cap. He also extended his lead over colleague Chris Gayle for the most runs in a single season, which he set with 733.

Kohli is also the only skipper to score 500 runs or more in three IPL seasons, with 505 runs in 2015 and 634 runs in 2013. The RCB captain did so by breaking the record set by Mumbai Indians skipper Sachin Tendulkar, who had done it twice before: 618 runs in 2010 and 553 runs in 2011.

Kohli has also surpassed his mentor Mahendra Singh Dhoni in terms of the number of straight games he has captained a club in the IPL. Kohli has now led RCB for 64 consecutive games, eclipsing Dhoni’s previous best of 61.
