Popular actor Gautam Vig is back on television, stepping into the role of Aditya in Star Plus’ drama Sayoneee. Reuniting with producer duo Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta (Dreamiyata Entertainment), Gautam takes on a grounded, nuanced character that marks a distinct shift from his past screen avatars.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Gautam reflects on his strong bond with his producers, his equation with co-stars Rashami Desai and Janhavi Soni, and what makes his latest venture deeply meaningful.
Having previously portrayed the impulsive Jordan in Junooniyatt, Gautam shared how returning to work with Dreamiyata Entertainment feels like coming home to a team that trusts his versatility as an actor. “I worked with Ravi and Sargun on Junooniyatt, so it’s lovely to be back with them. They’ve seen me play Jordan, and now they’ve trusted me with someone quite different. That means a lot. I’m comfortable working with them, and I know I can go to them if I’m unsure about a scene or where Aditya is coming from.”
Contrasting his past emotional and unpredictable roles, Gautam describes Aditya as a grounded character whose true strength lies in quiet understanding and active listening. “Jordan in Junooniyatt was driven by his emotions. He could be impulsive and difficult to predict. Aditya is much more settled. He cares deeply for Saanvi, but he doesn’t think loving her means making choices for her. As an actor, I’m enjoying that change. With Aditya, sometimes the most meaningful thing I can do in a scene is listen.”
Building dynamic rapport on set has been an engaging process, especially while working alongside veteran actor Rashami Desai and co-star Janhavi Soni. “Rashami ma’am has so much experience, and it shows in the way she approaches Maya. There’s always something to pick up from watching her work. Jahnavi is lovely to work with too. Our scenes depend on Saanvi and Aditya feeling comfortable with each other, so it helps that we can talk through things and try different approaches. We’re still getting to know each other as a cast, and I’m enjoying that process.”
Aditya isn’t there to drive a wedge or solve everything; instead, Gautam explains his character’s delicate, supportive position within the central mother-daughter narrative. “Saanvi has grown up with so many questions about her mother. Aditya understands how much finding those answers matters to her, but he also knows they’re hers to find. He can listen when she needs to talk, stay beside her when things get difficult, and be honest with her. What happens between Maya and Saanvi is something the two of them have to work through. Aditya’s place is beside Saanvi while she does that.”
With Sayoneee launching around Ganesh Chaturthi, Gautam reflected on what he seeks from the festive season both professionally for the show and personally for his craft. “I’d ask Bappa to keep my family and everyone working on the show healthy and happy. We’ve just begun this journey, and I hope we get the chance to tell Aditya and Saanvi’s story for a long time. And personally, I’d ask for the patience to keep learning and do better with every scene.”
