Sudhanshu Pandey has had a splendid two years journey with Anupamaa, the Star Plus show. There has never been a dull moment with Vanraj Shah on the screen. The manner in which Sudhanshu has carried the unpredictability factor in his character, has been applaudable.
In a candid chat with IWMBuzz.com, Sudhanshu talks about the present phase in the show, on the present complexities in his character and much more.

How will you describe the new phase that lies in store for Vanraj Shah?
I don’t think any new phase in Vanraj Shah’s life can be defined. He is such a complicated and unpredictable character. But I guess, his only motivation is his family, his kids and his parents. They are the people who he lives for. He wants to make them proud and happy. That is his foundation and on that lie his anger, shortcomings, insecurities etc.
Do you feel his reactions as a father and family man are justified given the scenario the Shahs are facing?
Absolutely justified. As a father, it is his moral responsibility that his kids, especially his daughter is in the right company. If she is getting attached to a boy, he has to make sure whether the boy is good. Any normal father would react the same. All his actions are completely justified.
We have watched varied shades and layers in Vanraj Shah in Anupamaa over these 2 years? Which phase is the closest to your heart?
Yes, he has had varied shades in his character. The closest to my heart was the phase of divorce. The way in which Vanraj and Anupamaa’s divorce happened, the scenes written, the background music used, how it was shot, were probably one of the best phases in the show. People were completely in love with the sequences.
Anupamaa has rocked for 2 long years. How does it feel being a core member of the cast?
Yes, Anupamaa has rocked for the last 2 years. It feels great to be a part of such a cult show. All of us have benefitted from the show. We are all happy to be a part of this show.
Do you think there is more drama added into the show with the entry of the Kapadia extended family?
I really do not know what kind of drama has been added with the addition of the Kapadia family. I can only say that Adhik’s presence in that family and Pakhi falling for him, has surely created a lot of drama. This is the present ongoing track. So for sure, their addition has brought in key elements in the current scenario.
As a father, what have your biggest fears been? And how do you address them?
My biggest fear as a father has been about my kids not being free enough to share and talk with their parents if they are going through any problems in life. So we have given our kids a free life, we are friendly and make sure they tell us anything that they have in mind. Fortunately, our kids are very open with us.
What can viewers expect from Vanraj Shah now?
Well, the viewers can expect the unexpected from Vanraj. Like I always say, you never know when Vanraj will scream, ‘Vanraj Shah is back’ and do something that no one is prepared for.
