Sonam Arora is simply exceptional in the role of the aggressive and ruthless transgender Angel in Colors show Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. Every time the focus is on her character, she comes up with an eccentric idea to create problems in the lives of Heer (Jigyasa Singh), Saumya (Rubina Dilaik) and their family.
There is never a happy moment in the show when Angel is around!! That’s the thunderous aura that has been created so very well by actress Sonam Arora in the character, in the popular Rashmi Sharma Productions show.
Says Sonam, “I have been part of Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki for a good seven months now. I get back to the show with new tracks and new plans owing to the immense love showered by fans on me and Angel. I get back every time through public demand (smiles).”
“The journey with the role has been really good. When I started off doing Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, I did not know that this will run so long. My character got into the show for a cameo role of two months. However, viewers enjoyed the track so much that there was a consistent rise in the ratings. This is my first satellite show. This outcome in the form of love and fame has made me really happy. I had never imagined getting all this appreciation. Our team of Writers and Directors are very good on the show. Frankly speaking, I have been given a free hand to perform my role.”
Talking about the elaborate research that Sonam has personally gone through for the role, she says, “I have researched a lot personally about transgenders. Also, the beautiful manner in which my character has been presented to viewers is incredible. I am blessed and feel lucky that the channel and makers trust me for every twist they bring in with the re-entry of Angel. I am happy that I have been able to deliver as per the requirements of the script. Having said this, it also puts an added pressure and responsibility on me, whenever I am called upon for a new track in the show. The challenge for me is to better my previous track and give more power to Angel.”
Sonam goes on to recollect an instance wherein she was unwell for a certain track but had to maintain high energy levels in order to keep to the consistency levels of the character. “I told myself that Angel has been accepted by viewers for her fierceness and I cannot bring it down because of my health issue. I pushed myself to get it right. I also improvise a lot with my scenes. I add comic phrases at times, and also add few new flavours into the role.”
Sonam loves the look given to her in Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. “It is total teamwork in getting my look to perfection. I enjoy decking up. When I am in my look, my energy levels instantly double up.”
Sonam Arora who was earlier seen in Gandii Baat Season 2 in the role of a tomboyish lesbian character, loves challenges in roles. “I love picking up different kinds of roles. This is not my first challenge. Gandii Baat 2 was a big challenge. I have played a normal housewife in Batla House, which was a positive character. For Rangbaaz, I played a Rajasthani uneducated lady. This one in Shakti has been very hatke.”
“I have two webseries coming. In Karma for Hungama, I play a high-end fashionable call girl. I would love to take up web projects,” says Sonam.
She reiterates saying, “After Angel in Shakti, I will not take up any kind of role. It has to be bigger than Angel.”
