Actress Tanisha Mehta, who spent her childhood in New Zealand and Australia, opened up about experiencing Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai and how it feels worlds apart from what she witnessed growing up abroad.
The actress gained massive recognition after being cast as the lead character Vrinda in Star Plus’ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi starring alongside veteran actress Smriti Irani. She currently continues to play the lead in its spin-off Kyunki Rishton Ke Bhi Roop Badalte Hain alongside Rohit Suchanti.
Talking about Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, Tanisha got candid and said, “It’s honestly worlds apart. Growing up in New Zealand and Australia, Ganesh Chaturthi was something I experienced on a much smaller scale. We would have small gatherings within the community, maybe a little pooja at home or at the local temple. It was intimate and simple.”
“But coming to Mumbai and experiencing it here is a completely different feeling. The energy here is unmatched — the grand pandals, the music, the decorations, the dhol beats, and people coming together with so much devotion is something you can’t really replicate anywhere else. The whole city comes alive,” she added.
The actress further shared that the sense of community in Mumbai during the festival is what makes it truly special. “There is such a beautiful sense of community in Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi. Everyone is united in celebration, and that collective spirit is truly special. I think because I grew up away from India, I appreciate these traditions even more now. Back then, I didn’t fully understand the depth of it, but now being here, it feels like I am reconnecting with a part of my culture and my roots. It feels personal and very emotional for me,” Tanisha said.
On the professional front, Tanisha is known for featuring in TV shows like Ikk Kudi Punjab Di, Shubh Laabh – Aapkey Ghar Mein and Lag Ja Gale. She also made an appearance in the film Bhakshak. She has been featured in independent tracks, including Ab Teri Baari by Ayushmann Khurrana and Naezy, as well as Jhanjer by Dalbir Rana.
