Falak Khan, known on screen as Safiya Baig, in Colors TV‘s show Seher Hone Ko Hai, produced by Icecream Dreams and Aarambh Entertainment, is a powerful example of how determination and self-belief can overcome deeply rooted societal norms. Hailing from Muzaffarpur, she grew up in a conservative family where stability and academics were given the highest importance. Choosing a career in acting meant stepping into the unknown and challenging long-held perceptions, both within her family and society.
Strongly grounded in education, Falak’s academic journey is as inspiring as her artistic one. She holds a B.Tech in Information Technology from M.I.T Muzaffarpur, an MBA from BVUSDE, Mumbai, studied Filmmaking from FACE, Mumbai, and also completed an MBA from Whistling Woods International. Coming from a family where both her mother and father are PhD holders, education was never optional; it was a way of life. Despite being highly qualified and having secure career options, Falak chose to follow her passion, and convincing her family to allow her to move to Mumbai was one of her greatest challenges.
Starting her life in movies was far from easy. Falak worked relentlessly, faced rejections, and navigated emotional and professional struggles with quiet strength. Her perseverance paid off when she became part of the film Champaran Mutton, which went on to become an Oscar semifinalist and garnered various awards, including Best Actor, at different festivals across the world. The recognition reaffirmed her belief in meaningful cinema and validated the years of hard work, patience, and sacrifice she had endured.
Opening up about her journey, Falak shares, “I come from a small town like Muzaffarpur in Bihar and from a very conservative family where choosing acting was never considered a safe or acceptable option. Convincing my parents to let me come to Mumbai was the toughest battle of my life, but I knew I had to stand up for my dream.”
She adds, “Both my mother and father are PhD holders, and education has always been the strongest value in our family. I am highly educated myself, and that education gave me courage, patience, and strength to face different challenges in my life. It helped me face society, the industry, and every challenge with confidence.”
Reflecting on her struggles, she says, “When I started my life in movies, nothing was easy. I faced rejections, uncertainty, and emotional struggles, but I kept working hard and learning every day. Being part of Champaran Mutton, which later became an Oscar semifinalist, made me believe that honest work and perseverance truly matter.”
Concluding with conviction, Falak shares, “Coming from Muzaffarpur to Mumbai has been a journey of faith and resilience. I worked very hard to create my own identity, and every struggle shaped me into a stronger person. I believe dreams don’t come true overnight, but if you stay consistent and true to yourself, they eventually find their way.” “Acting is my passion, not a necessity. That’s why I am very honest towards it, and I don’t believe in any shortcuts.”
Best of luck!!
