As World Dance Day arrives, Niharika Chouksey, Anu of Zee TV’s Tumm Se Tumm Tak, reflects on what dance truly means to her. For Niharika, it goes far beyond just being an art form. Dance is her way to recharge, find joy, and reconnect with herself whenever life feels overwhelming.
“Dance is like my reset button. Whenever I feel low or tired, I just start moving, and somehow everything feels lighter. It gives me energy without me even trying. It also keeps my mind calm because for those few minutes, I am not thinking about anything else. It just makes me feel alive.”
When it comes to music, Niharika likes to keep things spontaneous. “I don’t have a set playlist—whatever matches my mood in the moment is what gets me moving. Sometimes it’s a catchy Bollywood track, other times it’s just a song I have heard recently. As soon as the music feels right, I let myself dance without overthinking it.”
For Niharika, the idea of a dream dance partner isn’t about fame or big names. “I hope to share the stage with someone who inspires me to grow and step outside my comfort zone. It’s all about learning and becoming better through the experience.”
Firmly believing that dance belongs to everyone, she concludes with an inclusive thought: “I feel anyone can dance. Maybe not everyone becomes perfect or professional, but dancing is not only about technique. It is about feeling the music. If you enjoy it and express yourself, you are already a dancer. Talent helps, but passion matters more.”
