Itti Si Khushi actor Sumbul Touqeer does not need an occasion to dance. She finds rhythm in her everyday life, using dance as an expression to enjoy, reconnect, and celebrate herself. Speaking on the occasion of International Dance Day, which is observed on April 29, she mentioned, “Dance isn’t just a form of expression for me. It’s where I find myself. It is my constant source of energy and gives me clarity on life. As an actor, our days can be packed, with too many things to do in too little time, but as soon as I start moving, something inside me changes. My body takes over my mind, and all the exertion and pressure go away.”
For her, dance is not about giving the perfect steps or performing in a crowd but being present with herself. She said, “When I am dancing, I don’t bother about where I am or who is around me; I just feel my body moving and get into the rhythm. It puts me in sync with myself.”
But Sumbul doesn’t have a favourite song on which she likes to dance. She said, “I just need music and beats, and I am there. My body starts to move on its own. But having said that, songs that have peppy beats attract me. Some songs just make you want to put on your dancing shoes. And I love to dance on them.”
Asked if there is a professional that she would like to collaborate with, she said, “I can’t name one. There are so many amazing dance experts out there, each with their unique style, that it is difficult to choose. But I would love to collaborate with someone who can translate emotions into movements and make it look like a form of storytelling.”
