Actor Shivani Gosain, currently seen in the Sun Neo show Rishto Se Bandhi Gauri, opens up about the importance of emotional well-being across genders as the world observes Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

“I am never gender biased. For me, all genders are human—and they go through the same emotions, same pain, and same challenges in different situations and circumstances,” says Shivani, highlighting the need to normalise conversations around mental health for everyone.

She believes both mental and physical health should take top priority. “More than anything, one should give importance to mental and physical health first in life. And if they can’t heal on their own, then they should take someone’s help—either professional or someone they can talk to, who understands and supports them.”

Challenging stereotypes, Shivani shares, “Somehow, I’ve met men who are far more expressive than women.” She stresses that families must raise children in an environment where emotional expression is not limited by gender.

“Family should always treat everyone equally from the beginning so that they can express their pain, emotions, and feelings freely,” she adds. “Equality should not be just a word—it should be a genuine practice in every house to make life better for every gender in society.”

She ends with a thought that ties everything together: “Love, respect, choices, options, responsibilities, efforts, rights, and expression—everything should feel equal in daily life. Only then can we address mental health in a truly meaningful way.”

For Shivani, creating emotionally safe spaces at home is the first step toward a more mentally healthy society—for all.
