Festive celebrations on Sony SAB’s long-running show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (produced by Neela Film Production) have always been lit, bringing warmth, humour, and a true sense of togetherness into millions of homes. As the vibrant energy of Navratri fills the air, the show’s much-loved Tapu, Nitish Bhaluni, reflects on the spirit of community, the joy of shooting festive sequences, and the unforgettable moments shared with the Gokuldham family.
For Nitish, stepping into the festive world of Gokuldham transcends ordinary television shooting—it feels like a genuine extension of family. “Festivals are magical, but in Gokuldham, the joy is multiplied. Whether it’s Tapu Sena managing decorations or sharing endless laughs, these moments are a lifelong blessing. This is a family I want to celebrate every single milestone with.”
While the screen showcases flawless festive grace, the real magic happens off-camera. Amidst heavy traditional costumes, compliments, and rhythmic beats, lighthearted laughter takes centre stage, creating cherished bonds among the entire crew. Talking about it, Nitish tells us, “It is fun to shoot for garba. We compliment each other on our attire. More than that, we laugh during the behind-the-scenes.”
Carrying forward the rich cultural essence of his hometown in Shimla while portraying a vibrant Gujarati character brings a unique personal journey for Nitish. “It is a blessed feeling. I come from Himachal, Shimla. Celebrations in Gokuldham are felt as an inspiration worldwide. Every time we celebrate, we send a message to audiences. It is a great responsibility to shoot for these scenes.”
Talking about his prowess in dancing, Nitish tells us, “I am not a natural garba dancer. I have never done garba. I am a natural Pahadi dancer. Now playing a Gujarati character, I have learnt garba. You can see me in full garba mode now. I like Aditya Gadhvi’s rap song Kaljug No Kanhaiyo. I like the rap too much.”
Embodying the true spirit of Tapu, Nitish reminds everyone to embrace life with a light heart, spread cheer wherever they go, and always keep a smile ready for the people around them. “We are here to live. We’d better chill, have fun and spread love around us. Spread smiles and don’t be serious about yourself.”
