India secured its independence on 15 August 1947, which ended about 200 years of oppressive foreign rule. It is a day to remember the countless sacrifices done by thousands of men and women who strived to attain freedom for our country. Talking exclusively to IWMBuzz.com, Sayantani Ghosh, who plays the role of Daljeet in Sony Sab show Tera Yaar Hoon Main, shared her special school memories of Independence Day celebrations. “I remember we would be in school for our flag hoisting ceremony, dressed in white and have a badge on the chest. These all have brought a sense of patriotism and love for the country. National Anthem is my favourite patriotic song,” she said.

When asked about how proud she feels about Olympic wins this year, she added, “I feel proud Indian with the way our athletes have performed this year. The feeling is like you have won it so that is the feeling of joy and happiness. It only shows that if we nurture and train our athletes more then India has a long way to go.”

India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day, what is the one thing, we are yet to get freedom from according to you? “There are still few things we need freedom from. Well, I think we are still a judgemental lot. We judge human beings. There are some sets of pre-conceived notions especially when it comes to women. No matter how developed we are, there are certain things that are expected from a woman. I truly believe in the fact that ‘live and let live’ so definitely we need freedom from these notions.”

Happy Independence Day to all!
