Additi Gupta, who has enthralled audiences with her amazing portrayals in shows like Kis Des Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Badalte Rishton Ki Dastaan, Qubool Hai, Kaala Teeka, Pardes Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Kaal Bhairav Rahasya Season 2, is back on screen. The actress returned to TV after three years with Sony TV’s latest offering Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii.

In the new medical drama, Additi is seen playing the protagonist, Dr. Deepika Sinha. Commenting on her new project, Additi said, “I feel lucky to be a part of this show. It’s a medical drama, a genre I have never attempted before so it was challenging for me. I knew from day one that it’s going to take my blood, sweat, and tears, and I was happy that I must work so hard. With Dhadkan, I am learning more and experimenting with new things, and it feels like I have seen a different side of me.”

When asked why she opted for this show, she added, “We all want to do something different and as an actor, we all want to experiment with ourselves, our acting abilities, and don’t want to get typecast. Every actor waits for this opportunity, and this is an intelligent drama that is unlike any Indian daily soap. I have always been very picky in terms of choosing scripts and I cannot do the same kind of shows back-to-back because that gets very boring for us actors. I loved the script and the kind of understanding that the producers and the scriptwriters had on the show from day one and when I read the first episode, I was like oh my god this is hardcore. This is not going to be an emotional TV drama, but it is going to be a sensible TV show.”

So do you see any similarities between yourself and your character? “Honestly, Deepika as a character is 95% of what Aditi is in terms of how Deepika thinks and even her body language is like mine. I am so glad that I was chosen to bring alive Dr. Deepika on-screen. When you watch the episode, you will get to know the character and how similar she is to me. There is less pretense in the show and it’s so real that the audience will feel that they are watching Aditi and not Deepika.”

The show Dhadkan talks about women facing gender-based prejudice at the workplace. Tell us your take on the concept, “I think it was long due that we started this conversation on Indian television. I feel people have been speaking about it on OTT platforms and some people have already started this conversation for a while now. It is never too late to have a discussion on this subject though. I also think people judge a lot of Indian television serials and actors that they keep on spoon-feeding the same content to the viewers every time. So, it’s time that we give them content worth consuming and subjects worth discussing about.”
