Celebrating National Sports Day, actor Akshay Mhatre—who plays the lead role of Girdhar Maurya in Anmol TV’s Humari Radha—shared his love for sports, fitness inspirations, and personal wellness routines.

Reflecting on his childhood connections to sports and his personal favourites to watch, he said, “There are several sports that I enjoy watching, including Cricket, Football, and F1. But one sport which I watch but know I will completely fail at is Kabaddi. My father and his friends used to play Kabaddi at base levels in their life, and following Pro Kabaddi now brings back those memories. If I had to pick a sport to play professionally, I believe I could have played either Cricket or F1.”

Speaking about the colleagues who inspire his physical conditioning and work ethic, he averred, “There are several co-stars who are remarkably disciplined and always up to date with their workout sessions. All the top-league actors who constantly work on their craft and physical abilities really inspire me—like Shah Rukh Khan and others.”

Revealing the elite athlete whose training regimen he would love to test out, Akshay said, “If given the chance, I would swap the fitness regimen of Virat Kohli. He is one person who has truly set an example with his fitness discipline. I just hope my body could cope with that, even for a week!”

Sharing his personal philosophy on self-care, joy, and mental resilience, he quipped, “I believe that you need to seek happiness when you are really down. Personally, what gives me happiness is good food, good conversation, and a good movie, probably. You need to keep yourself happy to bounce back after a tough day.”
