Vijayendra Kumeria has again made a mark on television with his strong performance in Juhi Mui as Sanyam Singh. The actor, who is known for taking up challenging roles, feels that taking care of your mental health is as important as taking care of your physical health. On World Mental Health Day, Vijayendra spoke on the importance of mental well-being and the stigma attached to it.
According to Vijayendra, a healthy body doesn’t mean a person is perfectly healthy. He feels that mental health also plays an important role in maintaining physical fitness.
Talking about the same, the actor said, “I would say that mental health is even more important than physical health; just being physically fit does not mean you are healthy. A healthy mind will lead to a healthy body, and the results you want in your physical health are also affected by your mental health. Your mental health plays a very important part in hormonal balance and imbalance.”
While conversations around mental health have become more common, many people still find it difficult to share what they are going through. Vijayendra feels that there has been a change in how people approach the subject, but the fear of being misunderstood continues to stop many from opening up.
The Juhi Mui actor said, “People are becoming more open about mental health these days compared to earlier times, but still, a lot of people keep their feelings locked up because they fear that no one will understand them. Things are changing, but there is still a stigma attached to it.”
Explaining how he protects his mental well-being, he said, “I deal with things in a very mature manner now. I don’t let the noise, good or bad, get to my head. I don’t take too much pressure about success. I just do my job right and feel happy about giving my best. Public judgment is something we do not have control over, so I don’t let the negativity bother me, and I embrace the positivity I get. I try my best to fulfil the expectations of the industry and my fans. I give my best, and whatever the result is, I accept it. That is the mantra for me.”
The actor also had a message for people who may be struggling silently but hesitate to seek support because of what society might think.
Sharing his advice, Vijayendra said, “I would tell someone struggling with mental health issues to confide in people who are close to them. They should understand that taking help from a therapist can be helpful, and they should not worry about any taboo in society. Yoga and meditation should also be made a part of daily activities.”
