Television actress Tanya Sharma, who is currently winning hearts as Ira in Star Plus‘ Oh Humnava: Tum Dena Saath Mera, produced by Studio LSD, says audiences can expect plenty of drama, emotions and unexpected twists as her character continues to shape the story.
Talking about Ira’s role in the show, Tanya shared, “When I enter a show, I always bring a twist. Ira has fun elements, grey shades, pink shades—there are so many layers to her. As the story unfolds, I hope the audience enjoys discovering every side of her.”
Working alongside the popular television duo Shabir Ahluwalia and Sriti Jha has been a memorable experience for Tanya. “I’ve watched them on television for years, and I never imagined I’d be part of their love triangle. I was honestly very nervous. But both Shabir and Shruti are such warm and calm people. They make everyone on the set feel comfortable. They’re absolute sweethearts, and I love working with them,” she shared.
Speaking about Ira, Tanya explained that while the character has grey shades, she isn’t a stereotypical villain. “Ira loves Rakshit deeply. She’s supported him since childhood, so naturally, she’ll have a problem if another girl comes between them. Whatever she does, she does wholeheartedly. That’s what makes her relatable,” she said.
The actress also sees a reflection of herself in Ira. “One thing Ira and I have in common is that we both take relationships very seriously. If we truly love someone, we’re willing to go to any extent for that person,” she revealed.
Having portrayed several layered characters over the years, Tanya admitted she no longer worries about being typecast. “I’ve stopped worrying about being typecast because I feel people enjoy watching me make life difficult for others on screen,” she laughed, before adding, “There isn’t just black or white anymore—there’s grey. I think today’s women are grey in the sense that they think about themselves too. That doesn’t make them negative. Women have spent years putting everyone else first. If they’re finally thinking about themselves, why not?”
She further explained that playing a grey character requires her to keep her own emotions aside. “Sometimes I genuinely feel bad for another character in a scene, but I have to hide my own emotions because Ira doesn’t feel that way. As an actor, it’s important to understand the character’s perspective rather than your own,” she said.
The actress believes social media has become an essential part of an actor’s journey today. “Social media is very important now. Even when I wasn’t doing television, I stayed connected with my audience through vertical content. It’s difficult to balance everything, but it’s necessary because that’s how you connect with people today. TV lets you connect one way, Instagram lets you connect another,” she explained.
Thanking fans for the love they’ve shown her comeback, Tanya concluded, “Thank you so much for waiting for my comeback. I hope I don’t disappoint you. Please continue watching Oh Humnava: Tum Dena Saath Mera on Star Plus and keep showering Ira with your love.”
