Actor Sai Ballal is all set to raise the drama quotient in Zee TV‘s Tumm Se Tumm Tak as he steps again into the powerful role of Jalandhar, a man driven by revenge against Aryavardhan. With the storyline taking a gripping turn with Anu and Arya’s marriage on the cards, Sai opens up about his character’s intense arc, the appeal of negative roles, and how he balances the emotional weight that comes with such performances.
Speaking about what viewers can expect now in the Rahul Tewary Productions show, he shares, “Jalandhar is not just a typical antagonist. He is deeply layered, and his actions are rooted in a strong sense of purpose and past wounds. As the track unfolds, audiences will see him slowly disrupt Anu and Arya’s lives in ways they never imagined. His presence will bring a lot of tension and unexpected twists.”
Playing such an intense character often comes with its own challenges, especially when it comes to disconnecting after long shooting hours. He says, “Switching off is very important for me. Once the shoot is done, I make a conscious effort to step away from the character. I spend time with family, listen to music, or simply relax to bring myself back to a neutral space.”
Talking about audience response, he adds, “Negative roles do tend to grab attention because they drive the story forward. People react strongly to them, whether it is love or hate, and that engagement is very exciting as an actor.”
Sai admits that he enjoys exploring grey shades more than straightforward positive roles. “Grey or negative characters give you more scope to experiment. They are unpredictable and emotionally complex, which makes them very interesting to portray,” he explains.
Addressing the concern of being typecast, he says, “It is always a thought in an actor’s mind, but I believe if you keep evolving and bring something new to each role, the audience and industry will see you beyond a single image.”
For Jalandhar, Sai has consciously worked on adding depth to make the character believable. “I have tried to humanise him. Even in his darkest moments, there is a reason behind his actions. It is important for the audience to understand where he is coming from, even if they do not agree with him,” he concludes.
With Sai Ballal bringing intensity and nuance to Jalandhar, viewers can expect an engaging and emotionally charged phase ahead in Tumm Se Tumm Tak.
