Known for winning hearts as Armaan in Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, actor Rohit Purohit believes that fatherhood is one of life’s most transformative experiences. This Father’s Day, the actor reflects on balancing work and family, the lessons parenting has taught him, and how becoming a father has reshaped his outlook both on and off screen.
For actors, long shooting schedules often mean spending days or even weeks away from home. Speaking about staying connected despite the distance, Rohit says that emotional presence matters just as much as physical presence. “Even when work keeps me away, I make sure to stay connected through regular calls and video chats. It’s important to be present in the little moments, even from afar. Those conversations help me feel involved and remind me of what truly matters.”
Being a public figure comes with its own challenges, especially when it comes to protecting family from unwanted attention. Rohit believes that striking the right balance is essential. “I want my child to feel proud of what I do, but at the same time, I believe some parts of life should remain private. Children deserve the freedom to grow up without constant scrutiny. I think it’s about sharing happiness while maintaining healthy boundaries.”
As parents, we often focus on guiding and protecting our children, but it’s equally important to understand their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.
When asked what he would say if his child expressed a desire to become an actor, Rohit emphasises passion and perseverance over glamour. “My first advice would be to pursue it only if they genuinely love the craft. Acting is rewarding, but it’s also demanding and requires patience, discipline, and resilience. Success doesn’t happen overnight, so it’s important to enjoy the journey and keep learning.”
Fatherhood has also influenced his work as an actor, allowing him to connect with emotions more deeply. “Absolutely. Becoming a father changes the way you experience emotions. You become more sensitive, more empathetic, and more aware of relationships. Those experiences naturally reflect in your performances and help you bring greater authenticity to emotional scenes.” While parenting books can offer guidance, Rohit admits that some realities can only be understood through experience.

“The biggest truth is that there is no perfect parent. You learn as you go. Every child is different, every situation is different, and sometimes you simply have to trust your instincts. That uncertainty is something no book can fully prepare you for.”
Reflecting on his own journey as a parent, Rohit says there is one quality he hopes to strengthen further. “I think I’d like to become a better listener. As parents, we often focus on guiding and protecting our children, but it’s equally important to understand their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. I want to create a space where they always feel heard and understood.”
Here’s wishing our readers Happy Father’s Day!!
