Actress Jyoti Tiwari, who is currently seen in Sony SAB’s Hui Gumm Yaadein, has been a familiar face on television with shows like Hamariwali Good News, Devanshi, Meri Hanikarak Biwi and Vidya. While audiences know her through the characters she plays on screen, Jyoti says her personality when the camera is not rolling is quite different.
Talking about what she is like off camera, Jyoti says, “Honestly, I’m quite different when the cameras are not rolling. I’m pretty chilled out, I like talking to people, joking around and having my own little moments. But at the same time, if I have a scene coming up, I automatically become very focused. So it really depends on the moment.”
Jyoti describes herself as someone who enjoys having fun on set but knows when it is time to focus on work. She shares, “I’m a mix of both. I can be very fun and easygoing on set, but when it’s time for a scene, I’m completely into my work. I like having a good atmosphere around me, but I also believe that when the camera is on, you have to give your hundred per cent.”
Long shooting schedules can often be tiring for actors, but Jyoti tries to maintain a positive mood through them. She says, “It depends on how long the schedule is and how much sleep I’ve had! (laughs) But generally, I try to stay positive. Even on tiring days, if you keep complaining, the tiredness becomes even worse. So I prefer to keep myself occupied, laugh with the people around me and just get through the day happily.”
When it comes to things she cannot do without on set, her phone is definitely at the top of the list. “My phone, definitely! (laughs) Apart from that, I always like having water with me. And honestly, nowadays my bag feels like a mini house because there’s always something in it,” she says.
Like most actors, Jyoti has also had her share of funny moments during shoots. She recalls, “There have been so many! Usually the funniest moments are the ones that happen in between takes. Someone forgets a line, someone starts laughing, and the whole scene gets ruined because everyone catches the laughter. Those spontaneous moments are actually some of my favourite memories from shoots.”
While audiences may see a more composed side of her on screen, Jyoti says her co-stars have seen a very different side. She reveals, “I think my co-stars know that I can be quite crazy and spontaneous when I’m comfortable! (laughs) People may see me as serious or very composed because of the kind of work I do, but once I’m comfortable, I love joking around, pulling people’s legs and having fun. That side of me probably doesn’t come across much on screen.”
