This year, January 26 marks the 77th Republic Day of India. Actor Megha Sharma, who is seen in Saajan Ghar, feels that the country has evolved and gained a higher position on the global stage. She said, “India, for me, is a country of resilience and constant evolution. We are rooted deeply in our culture and values, yet we are learning to adapt to a fast-changing world.”

“Today, India stands at a point where ambition, innovation, and awareness are growing together. While we still have challenges to overcome, I genuinely feel proud of how far we’ve come as a nation socially, economically, and globally. India today is confident, vocal, and increasingly self-reliant,” she added.

Sharing her childhood memories of celebrating Republic Day, she said, “My childhood memories of Republic Day are very pure and nostalgic. Waking up early to watch the parade on TV, the flag hoisting in school, wearing white clothes, and practising patriotic songs and dances—it all felt very special.”

“There was a sense of pride even as a child, though we didn’t fully understand the Constitution then. It was a day that made us feel connected to our country beyond books,” she added.

However, Megha now feels that for many, it’s just another holiday. She said, “I feel it’s important to remind ourselves that it’s much more than that. It marks the day when India became a sovereign, democratic republic.”

“Even if we can’t attend celebrations, taking a moment to understand our responsibilities as citizens, not just our rights, is a meaningful way to honour the day,” she added.

Asked the two things she loves the most about India, she said, “First, I love India’s diversity—languages, cultures, traditions, and people—yet there’s a strong emotional unity that binds us together.”

“Second, I love the spirit of India—the ability of its people to stay hopeful, hardworking, and resilient even in difficult circumstances. That spirit is truly unmatched,” Megha ended.
