Vijayendra Kumeria is being appreciated for his role in Colors TV’s Juhi Mui, where he stars along with Eisha Singh. His layered and emotional portrayal has been one of the biggest talking points of the new drama since its debut. Amid all this, the television industry is witnessing a temporary pause in the weekly TRP ratings, but the actor says it hasn’t changed the team’s confidence or approach towards the show.
Speaking about the unusual phase, Vijayendra shared that Juhi Mui continues to move forward with the same belief it started with. He said, “There’s no change in the thought process or in evaluating the show. We’re going with the same conviction that we had started the show with. Yes, right now we do not know what the numbers are, how many people are watching, or how they like it, but at the same time, we have the confidence that people must be liking it because whatever response we’re getting on social media or as messages from other people who’re watching the show, the response has been positive. So, whenever the ratings get back, we’re optimistic that we’ll get good ratings.”
Asked whether the temporary absence of TRP ratings has given actors and writers more freedom to focus on storytelling, Vijayendra admitted that while ratings are important from a business point of view, they have never been his personal priority.
“I, myself, do not think about the ratings much. I’ve always said that as an actor, my job is to deliver the best whatever I’m capable of. But yes, it is also true that ratings are really important for the channel and business perspective. Right now, when the TRP is not coming, from the makers’ or writers’ point of view, I’m sure they must be having a breather because they won’t have any constant pressure to change the script according to the numbers. So, whatever was conceived, I think, they must be going along with the theme,” he explained.
The actor also revealed that social media has become the biggest indicator of the audience’s response during this period. Along with fans, he has also been receiving encouraging messages from people within the television industry.
Sharing what keeps him motivated, Vijayendra said, “In the absence of TRP, social media plays a great part. Whatever messages or feedback we’re getting from the fans is from social media. That is one part. Then people from the industry who are watching and messaging you that they’re liking the show. They’re also giving feedback. Also, you yourself watch the show and get to know how you’re doing and how the show is doing. So, I would say that personally I’m quite liking the show. It’s a different show. I’m liking the performances, the scenes, the writing, the chemistry between actors.”
When asked if the lack of weekly ratings has helped Juhi Mui settle into its narrative without the pressure of immediate numbers, Vijayendra said every situation has its advantages and disadvantages.
“See, there are pros and cons to everything. If the TRP is absent currently, of course, with the conviction the makers had started the show, they’re taking it forward with the same conviction. So, they’re not making any changes under pressure to maintain the TRP or get into the competition. It gives a better grounding to the show. You stay true to the basic tagline and concept. I’m sure till the time the TRPs come, the show will be having a very strong hold,” Vijayendra concluded.
