With viewers today choosing between OTT platforms, short-form content, and traditional television, producer Yash Patnaik of Inspire Films explained that he still believes there is room for a daily show like Kyunki Papa Kehte Hain, which launches soon on Sony SAB. The show has Raj Anadkat in the lead role. He, however, feels the genre needs to evolve without losing its core.

“The abundance of content has actually made authenticity more important. People may consume content across different platforms, but there is still something very special about a show that becomes part of your everyday routine and can be watched together as a family,” he said.

He believes his show fits into that space. “I think Kyunki Papa Kehte Hain offers that combination—accessible humour, relatable characters, and relationships that audiences can emotionally invest in. And Sony SAB has a very strong understanding of that family viewing experience,” he said.

On whether the traditional family drama needs reinventing for younger audiences, he said evolution is a given. “Television needs to continuously evolve with its audience. Young audiences today are exposed to storytelling from across the world, so they naturally expect contemporary characters, sharper storytelling, and situations that feel authentic to their lives,” he said.

At the same time, he was clear that certain things don’t change. “But the fundamental emotions around family, love, conflict, ambition, and belonging remain universal. The opportunity is to tell those stories with a contemporary voice and treatment. That is something we have consciously tried to do with Kyunki Papa Kehte Hain,” Yash highlighted.
