Abhishek Sharrma has been making a strong mark with his performance as Devansh, the male lead in Zee TV’s Vasudha. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the actor opened up about his bond with his sister and how he looks at the festival today. For Abhishek, the sibling relationship is not about one person being the protector. It is about being there for each other through every phase of life.

Talking about the traditional idea of a brother protecting his sister, Abhishek said, “I think protection between siblings has always been a two-way thing. When we are young, there is this idea that the brother will protect the sister, but as you grow up, you realise that siblings are equals. There are moments when my sister needs me, but there are also plenty of times when I need her — whether it is for advice, support, or just having her around. And honestly, I need her a lot when it comes to fashion because she has a much better sense of style than me.”

He added, “So for me, Raksha Bandhan is not really about making a promise that I will always protect my sister. It is about knowing that we will stand by each other no matter what. I should be able to have her back, and she should know that she can have mine. We should also be able to talk openly and be ourselves with each other. I think that understanding makes the festival much more meaningful today.”

Abhishek feels growing older has only made his relationship with his sister stronger and more mature. Looking back at their childhood, he said, “I think our relationship has become much more mature with time. As kids, you mostly remember the fights, arguments and that constant competition between siblings. But when you grow older, you start looking at your sibling as an individual and understand what they are going through.”

He further shared, “You realise that they have their own dreams, pressures and struggles, and that changes the way you look at them. Today, there is a lot more understanding and acceptance between us. She is my younger sister, so I will always feel protective towards her, but at the same time, I also try to understand what she wants and what she is going through. I am genuinely proud of everything she has achieved. So yes, I think our bond has become much deeper and emotionally stronger as we have grown up.”

The actor also spoke about staying connected despite busy schedules and physical distance. For him, being emotionally available matters more than being around someone every day.

“I feel emotional availability is more important. Of course, if you can be there physically for your sibling, nothing like it. But as you grow older, your career, work and different responsibilities can take you to different cities. You may have completely different routines and sometimes even go days without speaking, but that does not mean the bond has become weaker,” Abhishek said.

He added, “For me, the comfort of knowing that I can call my sister anytime, or she can call me whenever she needs me, matters the most. Sometimes it can be as simple as checking in, listening to them or giving them a space where they can talk without feeling judged. You don’t have to be around someone every day to make them feel that you are there for them. If they know you have their back whenever they need you, that is what really keeps a sibling relationship strong.”

For Abhishek, Raksha Bandhan is ultimately about mutual support, understanding and knowing that no matter how busy life gets, siblings will always have each other’s back.
