Mohit Parmar, who plays the role of Abhir Goenka in Star Plus and Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai, shares an emotional bond with Samridhii Shukla, who plays his sister in the show. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today (9 August), Mohit talks about the significance of Rakhi to him, his bond with Samridhii, both onscreen and off the screen, and his character graph in the show.
Says Mohit, “Abhir shares a very deep and layered bond with Abhira in the show. Abhir considers Abhira not just a sister but also a mother figure. She has always stood by him like a pillar of strength. One of the most defining moments in their bond was during Abhir’s accident—Abhira was the one who took a firm stand for him, supported her brother in seeking justice, and went out of her way to ensure he recovered well. Their relationship is unique because they are friends and siblings at the same time. Even though she is younger, Abhira’s strength and emotional maturity make her incredibly protective of Abhir.”
Talking about his offscreen bonding with Samridhii, Mohit states, “Offscreen, my bond with Samridhii Shukla is just as warm and affectionate. She often calls me her brother and has told me multiple times that she genuinely gets a brotherly vibe from me, which is very sweet and humbling to hear. Our off-screen comfort translates into our on-screen chemistry, and that makes our scenes even more organic and real. It feels like an extension of real life when we are working together.”
Speaking about the significance of Raksha Bandhan, Mohit avers, “Raksha Bandhan holds immense significance for me. My real sister, Mohina Parmar, has always been a huge support in my life. Beyond her, I have been fortunate to have developed many sisterly bonds over the years with Navpreet Kaur, Anu Sharma, Ankita Shayam, Swati Parmar, and Shweta Parmar. Every year, I receive several rakhis from all these wonderful sisters, and I proudly wear them on my wrist. It is a beautiful reminder of how blessed I am to be surrounded by so much love. Of course, the flip side is that my wallet gets lighter every year because I have to buy gifts for all of them! (laughs) But I truly feel lucky. These are people who have supported me and stood by me like family.”
On his plan for Raksha Bandhan this year, Mohit states, “This year, like most years, I will be in Mumbai due to work commitments. My real sister lives in Kullu, so she usually sends me a rakhi by post. Though we don’t get to celebrate together often because of the distance, she understands and is proud that I am working and following my passion. We always make it a point to connect virtually and celebrate in our own way, no matter where we are.”
