Naman Shaw, the multi-faceted actor currently seen as Adit Saxena in Colors TV’s Mangal Lakshmi, steps into his favourite and most rewarding role to date: being a father to his five-year-old son, Krivan.

This Father’s Day, Naman gets candid about the realities of modern parenting in showbiz, protecting his son from the spotlight, and the unique—sometimes digital—ways they stay anchored when work pulls him away.

Being a television lead demands gruelling schedules, away from home. For Naman, bridging that physical distance requires active emotional presence—and a bit of domestic technology. “No matter where I am, the first thing I do is video call him in the morning. Even when I’m in Mumbai and leave for a shoot before he wakes up, the first thing he does when he gets up is video call me,” Naman shares warmly.

For the world, I’m an actor, but for my child, I’m just his Dad.

But their connection doesn’t stop there. “Throughout the day, my camera is on at home. We literally talk through the CCTV! My wife and mom struggle to understand me through it, but my son gets every word. He sends me videos from football and callisthenics class while I constantly check in.”

Naman is fiercely intentional about drawing a line between his professional life and his son’s privacy. “I’ve always believed my career is public, but his childhood isn’t. A child’s life doesn’t have to be lived in the spotlight,” Naman says. “For the world, I’m an actor, but for my child, I’m just his Dad—those are two separate jobs.”

While Krivan occasionally gets intrigued by seeing his father receive public attention, Naman actively minimises the exposure. “I try to keep him away from cameras as much as I can. He celebrates my wins with me at home—and that’s enough.”

When asked what he would say if Krivan ever walked up to him wanting to pursue acting, Naman chuckles, revealing his son’s current aspirations.

“Well, my son is five right now, and he wants to become a chef—he’s very passionate about it! But if later in life if he decides to be an actor, I’d say: follow your dream, follow your heart.”

However, the seasoned actor would offer some grounded wisdom: “I’ll tell him to fall in love with the craft first, not the fame. Acting is all about discipline, patience, and constant learning. If he truly enjoys storytelling and is willing to work hard, I’ll support him completely. But I’ll also encourage him to experience life first—because that’s what you bring to the craft.”

Stepping into fatherhood hasn’t just changed Naman as a person; it has fundamentally altered how he approaches a script. This transformation beautifully collided with his character in Mangal Lakshmi. “I was lucky—when I started shooting for Mangal Lakshmi, I was playing a father, which I hadn’t done in my previous shows. I could relate so deeply with my on-screen son and daughter because I saw Krivan in Akshat,” Naman reveals.

“That connection was real, and I think the audience felt it too. Fatherhood didn’t just change me as a person—it made me a better actor.”

Reflecting on the unpredictable journey of parenting, Naman admits that no parenting guide can truly prepare you for the reality of raising a child.

“The hard truth is that there’s no perfect parent. You can prepare as much as you want, but every child is different, and every day teaches you something new. Sometimes you question yourself, sometimes you make mistakes—but what matters most is showing up with love, patience, and the willingness to keep learning.”

As for his personal goal this Father’s Day, Naman wants to gift his son the luxury of time. “I’d like to become even more present. Life gets busy, especially in this profession, and sometimes work demands so much of your time. I want my child to remember not just the milestones we celebrated, but the everyday moments we share.”

Here’s wishing all our readers Happy Father’s Day!!
