On Women’s Day, actress and Human Rights Ambassador Sheena Chohan is engaging with young people in Dharavi and supporting initiatives aimed at expanding human rights education for students across India.

Sheena is actively commemorating the occasion through meaningful engagement. She is connecting with youth from underserved communities, distributing hundreds of booklets focused on human rights awareness, and facilitating the distribution of complimentary human rights education kits to schools and universities throughout India.

“On Women’s Day, I believe change begins with taking small steps and action toward creating a mindset of complete equality. Women deserve respect, and that begins with respecting ourselves and expecting the same from others, while also educating younger generations about gender equality. As an actress, I’m conscious of the stories and characters I portray, because strong female roles can inspire women and young girls to recognise the strength that already exists within them. One of the biggest issues women still face in India is safety, so it’s vital that we not only change our thinking but also speak up clearly and fearlessly whenever our safety—or another woman’s safety—is threatened.”

As part of her Women’s Day initiative, Sheena is partnering with The Dharavi Dream Project – After School of Hip-Hop, an organisation that empowers young people through music, dance, and creative expression. The special youth session titled “Dream. Rise. Claim Your Rights.” brings together students and young artists from the community to explore themes of equality, confidence, and the power of using their voices to shape their future.

Sheena is also supporting the broader mission of Udayan Care, an organisation dedicated to empowering young people through education, mentorship, and opportunities that enable them to build confident, independent futures.
