Navratri is one of the most awaited festivals for those who love dancing, music and traditional Gujarati delicacies. For actor Raj Anadkat, who is currently seen in Yash and Mamta Patnaik’s Sony SAB show Kyunki Papa Kehte Hain, the festival is all about enjoying Garba, indulging in delicious food and soaking in the festive spirit. However, being a popular face comes with its own set of changes, and the actor admits that his experience of celebrating Navratri has evolved over the years.
Talking about what he misses the most about celebrating Navratri, Raj says, “I miss being able to freely go to a Garba ground and play without any interruptions. Now, whenever I go to play Garba, my fans get excited and want pictures and selfies, which is lovely. But sometimes, I end up clicking pictures more than playing Garba. It’s a good feeling to receive so much love, but I do miss those carefree moments when I could simply enjoy dancing.”
For Raj, Navratri is equally special because of the delicious Gujarati food prepared during the festival. Among the many delicacies, one traditional sweet holds a special place in his heart. “For me, it’s all about the delicious Gujarati food we get to enjoy during Navratri, especially Churma Ladoo. My mom makes it for the festival, and I just love it. It’s made with lots of ghee, dry fruits and kishmish. I absolutely love it,” he shares.
When it comes to Garba, Raj believes in letting the music take over rather than worrying about his moves. The actor enjoys dancing and prefers to follow the rhythm naturally. “I love dancing and playing Garba, so I don’t think too much when I’m on the dance floor. I just get into the vibe, follow the beats and enjoy myself. For me, it’s about having fun and being in the moment rather than thinking about whether I’m doing every step perfectly,” he says.
While comfort remains his priority when dressing up for the festival, Raj also makes sure his outfits reflect the festive mood. “I prefer keeping it comfortable but stylish. Garba involves a lot of dancing and movement, so you need to be able to move freely while still looking cool and festive. I like outfits that allow me to enjoy the celebrations without worrying about what I’m wearing,” he explains.

Music is another essential part of Raj’s Navratri celebrations, and certain Garba tracks instantly get him into the mood. Sharing his favourites, he says, “’Dholida’ is one of those songs that gets you into the Garba mood instantly. Then there are ‘Chogada’ and ‘Charar Charar Maru Chakdol Chale’, along with ‘Dakla’. The moment the music starts, it’s difficult to sit still. These are some of the songs I really enjoy dancing to during Navratri.”
While the actor would love to spend more time at Garba grounds, this year will be a little different for him as work commitments will keep him busy. However, he is looking forward to celebrating the festival with his co-stars and making new memories on the sets of his current show.
“This year, it’s going to be a working Navratri for me, filled with shoots and celebrations. There will be Garba on the sets and lots of fun with my new family from Kyunki Papa Kehte Hain. Even though I’ll be busy with work, I’m looking forward to celebrating the festival with everyone and enjoying the festive spirit together,” Raj concludes.
