Young actor Sohil Singh Jhuti won hearts recently playing the multi-layered character Parth Virani in Star Plus and Balaji Telefilms’ hit show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. Moving from sweet, innocent boyish charm to dark, complex twists, Sohil proved his talent for playing characters with a hidden edge. On the occasion of Halloween, we are always intrigued by the festival of costumes, pumpkins, and jump scares. The spooky season is more than a festival of frights—it is a celebration of transformation, theatricality, and the hidden complexities of human nature. We talk to Sohil about the spooky character he loves, the real-life intrigue he’s faced, and more.
When asked about what kind of character embodies the festive chaos of Halloween, Sohil leans away from traditional terror in favour of style, mischief, and unpredictable energy—mirroring his appreciation for playful icons. “I would be The Mask. It’s not a monster, but an anti-hero. And Jim Carrey’s ‘The Mask’ would be a great pick this year. It’s pure unadulterated energy, colour, and absolutely unpredictable fun to play the character.”
Actors spend their lives creating illusions, but sometimes reality scripts its own spine-chilling moments that leave even a seasoned performer questioning logic. Talking about the spooky incident that he has faced in real life, Sohil shares, “I’ve not encountered any strong paranormal activity, but once when in college, we were travelling for a field visit in Jaipur. My hotel room’s TV switched on to the same channel that I was planning to watch late at night—it was an FC Barcelona match. I was deep in sleep, doors locked; no one could come in. The remote was near the TV, and it switched on to that exact channel at 2 AM while I was sleeping. It was so creepy.”
I would like to dress as Clark Kent or as Prison Mike for Halloween.
Portraying darkness or distress on camera requires raw technical skill and deep emotional channelling, whether it is a sudden spike of terror or a lingering, silent menace. However, this is what Sohil would love to portray. “I would choose the screams. Because you need to switch to that mindset to get that scream out—one that has anger, frustration, and terror, and still should be convincing. A scream isn’t just a sound or voice coming out from you; it has to have a feeling.”
Ask him about his favourite Halloween costume and his comfort spooky watch on the festive night, he is ready with his choices. “I would like to dress as Clark Kent—wear a crisp white button-down shirt left partially unbuttoned to reveal a Superman T-shirt underneath, paired with glasses and a tie. I can also be dressed up as Prison Mike from The Office with a purple bandana and black blazer! As for the watch list, Halloween has to be Ghostbusters—the old series! Also ‘Thriller’, the music video by MJ, and how can we forget Scooby-Doo! Plus classics like The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, and Monster University to keep the festive spirit alive.”
Have you ever experienced your spooky moment? Think about it this Halloween!!
