Anupamaa actress Adrija Roy, who recently got engaged to Vignuesh Iyer, says Valentine’s Day has taken on a deeper meaning for her this year. For the actress, the celebration of love is less about grand gestures and more about emotional security, honesty and shared growth.

Defining what makes a relationship successful, Adrija says, is about acceptance in its truest form. “For me, a successful relationship is when two people can truly see each other, the strengths, the flaws, the moods, the dreams, and still choose to love without hesitation. It’s not always smooth, but it feels steady. I think the most important element is emotional honesty. When you can speak your truth without fear of being misunderstood or judged, that’s when a relationship really breathes,” she shares.

Discussing what makes her feel secure with her fiancé, she emphasises the comfort and understanding she finds in him. “With Vignuesh, I feel a kind of comfort I didn’t even know I needed. He listens, genuinely listens, and that makes me feel heard. There’s no pretence with him. I can have a bad day, be quiet, silly, or overwhelmed, and he meets me exactly where I am. That sense of being accepted wholeheartedly, that’s home for me,” she says.

When asked about her idea of a perfect day together, Adrija says it would be simple and meaningful. “A perfect day with Vignuesh is one where we disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other. Maybe we’d escape the city for a bit, find a quiet spot by the beach or somewhere surrounded by greenery, and just spend the day talking, laughing, and sharing stories we’ve never told each other before. I love when we discover new things about each other, even in the smallest conversations,” she explains.

The relationship, she adds, has helped her evolve personally. “I think I’ve grown gentler with myself. Being with Vignuesh has made me realise that love doesn’t have to feel like a fight or a performance. It can be peaceful. I feel more grounded, more patient, and more open than before. He reminds me that it’s okay to pause, to breathe, and to choose happiness over pressure. That has beautifully changed me,” she says.

As for plans this Valentine’s Day, the actress reveals it will be special for a simple reason. “This year, the 14th happens to be my holiday. For the first time, I’m actually taking the day off,” she says with a smile, hinting that the day will be reserved for quiet celebration and quality time.”
