As World Music Day brings melodies into focus, actress Shubhangi Atre, who has been a part of shows like Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Havan, Chidiya Ghar, and Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain!, opens up about her lifelong connection with music and how it continues to shape her everyday life.
Talking about what music means to her, she says, “I believe music is food for my soul, and I honestly cannot imagine my life without it.” She adds that her love for music began early in childhood, with memories of her mother singing while cooking and her father playing ghazals at home. She shares that these moments built a deep emotional bond with music that continues even today. “During monsoons, I find myself listening to a lot of rain songs because I’ve always connected the rainy season with music,” she says, adding that music instantly lifts her mood whenever she feels low.
Speaking about songs that never fail to uplift her, she says, “There are many, but if I have to pick one, it would be ‘Lag Ja Gale’ by Lataji.” She adds that the song has a calming effect on her and helps her feel emotionally connected.
When it comes to genres, Shubhangi says she enjoys a mix depending on her mood. “I love country music and ghazals,” she says, adding that she often listens to artists like Begum Akhtar, Abida Parveen, and Ghulam Ali. She explains that she is drawn to ghazals because of their depth, emotion, and poetic beauty.
She further shares that Bollywood music has always been a strong presence in her life. “Very often,” she says when asked how frequently she listens to it, adding that it has been a part of her routine since childhood.
Talking about her favourite singers, she says, “Lataji and Kishoreji are my favourites,” referring to Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. She adds that their voices carry timeless emotion and continue to feel fresh even today.
She concludes by saying that old melodies and ghazals bring back beautiful childhood memories, and currently, her playlist is filled with soulful ghazals and monsoon-inspired songs.
