On the occasion of World Music Day, actress Delnaaz Irani, who was recently seen in the Sony SAB show Hui Gumm Yaadein, opened up about her lifelong love for music and the special place songs hold in her heart. Known and loved for her portrayal of Sweetu in the iconic film Kal Ho Naa Ho, Delnaaz says music has been a constant companion through every phase of her life. Her role as Sweetu in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer remains one of her most memorable performances and continues to be cherished by audiences even today.
Talking about the role music plays in her everyday life, Delnaaz shares, “Music is not just entertainment for me. It is comfort, nostalgia, and healing. There is hardly a day when I don’t listen to music. No matter what mood I’m in, there is always a song that speaks to me and makes me feel better.”
The actress admits that she has a deep fondness for old Hindi melodies and often finds herself revisiting classics from Bollywood’s golden era. “I grew up listening to beautiful songs that had soul and poetry. Even today, songs like ‘Lag Jaa Gale’, ‘Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh’, ‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi Shikwa To Nahin’, and ‘Yeh Shaam Mastani’ instantly transport me to another world. There is a timeless charm in those melodies that never fades.”
Delnaaz also recalls how music from Kal Ho Naa Ho continues to evoke powerful emotions even after all these years.
“The music of Kal Ho Naa Ho holds a very special place in my heart because the film itself was so special. Whenever I hear the title track, it brings back countless memories from the sets, the people I worked with, and the love the film received from audiences. It is one of those songs that touches your soul every single time you listen to it.”
For the actress, music is closely tied to memories and emotions. “I truly believe music is a time machine. A single song can take you back to a particular moment, a person, or a feeling that you thought you had forgotten. That’s the magic of music. It preserves memories in a way nothing else can.”
As the world celebrates World Music Day, Delnaaz hopes people take a moment to appreciate the joy that music brings into their lives. “In a world that moves so fast, music gives us a chance to pause, reflect, and feel. It connects people across generations and cultures. Whether it’s an old classic, a romantic melody, or a new chartbuster, music has the power to unite us all. That’s something truly worth celebrating.”
