Sherdil Shergill the Colors show produced by Parin Multimedia comes across as a breath of fresh air in the otherwise majorly drama-packed programming lineup of the channel. Colors which mostly deals with social issues, romance and thrillers as part of its concept is for a change giving viewers a light-hearted genre. The slice-of-life romantic comedy that Sherdil Shergill depicts certainly brings a lot of freshness as it is unique in the list of shows that are on air presently. The concept in itself is capable of winning hearts.
We have the ‘Sherdil’ Manmeet Shergill, who comes across as the perfect example of how today’s woman should be. Independent, dynamic, highly successful, she is a woman who leads her life as per her own terms. It is not that success has blessed her from the word ‘go’, she has literally strived for it with the biggest opposition coming from home, in her father. Despite her father telling her that architecture is a man’s arena, Manmeet has grown to be one of the leading architects. She is highly renowned in her circle, but what makes her very endearing is the motherly attributes in her.
Manmeet is smart and practical to the extent that when she realized that she has reached her 30s, and yet not found a partner for herself, she did not want to deprive herself of the beautiful phase of motherhood. She has gone ahead and gotten herself a kid, via IVF. Mother of little Anmol, Manmeet is happy in her own world. However, the problem arises when she has to again bridge gaps with her family, after 2 long years. The impending wedding of her younger sister Gunjan and the shocking act of her sister attempting suicide shows Manmeet the ground reality. In order to unite with her family for the sake of her sister’s wedding, she has to go to Shimla with a husband who will be the father of her kid.
On the other side of the spectrum is Raj Kumar Yadav, lovingly called Mamaji Yadav. He was born to his industrialist father at a late age, when he had grown-up sisters who gave birth to kids at the same time when he was born. Hence he got called Mamaji soon after his birth. He is lazy, carefree and shies away from work. He has been forcibly placed as an intern with Shergill, and that is where the problems arise. He escapes from work, and goofs up big time with work. This puts Manmeet in problem situations. A man with style, Raj Kumar is born with a golden spoon.
Sparks between Raj Kumar and Manmeet fly high when both get to know the weakness of the other. While Manmeet is privy to the secret activities of stand-up comedy that Raj Kumar indulges in, Raj Kumar gets to peep into Manmeet’s personal life where she has a kid with no husband. Manmeet is forced to ask Raj Kumar for help and wants him to be her fake husband. Drama has begun with Manmeet travelling to Shimla with Raj and son Anmol.
The show is strong in its presentation and depiction. Manmeet’s character has been established beautifully, and she depicts the strong today’s woman. Raj’s character is also wonderfully etched, with him walking the thin line between understanding his family’s hatred for stand-up comedy to making them believe that he is on the right path. Amidst all of this, arises his carefree nature which is again depicted well.
Coming to performances, Dheeraj Dhoopar is having a gala time attempting comedy. We must say, that he is a natural in this genre. His facial expressions, poise and style in look and dialogues are superlative. Surbhi Chandna who returns to TV after a hiatus is tailor-made for the role of Manmeet Shergill. She is a stunner in terms of looks. She has got a very fashionable wardrobe for her role, and is looking like a style icon. The most impressive accessory of Manmeet is her personalized chain with the letter M on it.
It is a laugh riot for sure when Dheeraj and Surbhi pack a punch in this comedy setup. Their expressions are something to watch and appreciate.
The show has a good cast in addition to the leads. Sai Ballal, Iqbal Azad, Anindita Chatterjee, Kiran Sharma, and AaryaDharmChand Kumar are doing a great job.
The scene between the father and son, Sai Ballal and Dheeraj was impressive. It showed the class of the senior actor. Kiran Sharma in this new look is a revelation of sorts.
The breathtaking visuals of the antique home that the Shergills live in, in Shimla have been captured well. A very interesting contrast to this is given to the luxurious life that Manmeet enjoys in Mumbai. The story has maintained a good pace. We are sure that the audience has already got a great vibe of the Dheeraj-Surbhi chemistry. A special mention to the comic and well-thought-of background scores/sound given for every interesting situation between characters, especially between Raj and Manmeet.
Overall, Sherdil Shergill is impressive and has all the elements to give the viewers an engaging watch. We credit the show 3 out of 5 stars.
