Television shows linked to the medical backdrop are always different!! We have had shows in this genre in the past, but nothing to boast about in the very recent times!! This is where Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii fills the void!! The concept in itself is enough to keep the curiosity factor high. Since the concept is very unique, it comes with a lot of expectations. Coming from the creative mindset of Producers Nilanjana Puryakasstha and Herumb Khot under their banner Invictus T Mediaworks, this one promised to be a biggie ever since it was announced!! Must say, what a great first week we have had of the show!! You can name any element, starting from drama, to emotions, humour, and of course, the big premise being the FMS Hospital, everything about the concept has been superlative!! The biggest underlining factor that is depicted here is the woman power in the medical field and how the protagonist Dr Deepika Sinha has been struggling in a male-dominated field to put her point across, in every case and in every patient she comes across, to do the best as an able doctor and surgeon!!

Dr Deepika Sinha comes with huge baggage from the past, where she had to make a choice between her career and her lover. She carries the burden of probably choosing her career over the guy she loved so much!! Also, she has a tainted past in her career, with her being blacklisted as the doctor whose patient died on the operating table during her surgery owing to her medical negligence. All of this has pulled Dr Sinha down, but she has definitely not bogged down and lost the race of life!!

Her confident entry into her new work zone, FMS Hospital and the manner in which she takes her medical decisions, always keeping the ethics of medicine high, are heart-rendering. She is backed by the renowned surgeon Dr PC (Kaushik Chakravorty), which to the layman’s eyes appears differently!!

Dr Abhay Sathe (Vidyut Xavier), the capable doctor who is all ready to grab the opportunities that are presented before him, and become the best heart surgeon, comes across as the doctor with his heart in the right place. He does his best for the patients, but also holds an emotional connect with them. A rare quality to have in doctors, which actually is an asset!!

FMS Hospital also has Dr Sia Advani (Alma Hussein), Dr Piroz (Raghav Dhir) and Dr Ansri (Nishant Singh) who show a lot of promise.

The first week has seen some absorbing and emotional cases coming to light in the FMS Hospital. From a lady who is the sole bread-winner in her house on the verge of facing the setback of her hand being amputated, to one of the resident doctor’s mother being admitted, to two smart twin kids coming to the hospital and fate being really cruel with them, all the cases have been engaging to the core!!

There is a huge feel-good factor with the show. The biggest plus is the medical concept in itself, and the manner in which the ill-fated past of each of the doctors has urged them to be better in their professions. The personal back story of every character has been etched with great detail, filling in all nuances to the T. The other big positive from the show are the performances. One cannot leave out any character or actor, as everyone is performing brilliantly.

Additi Gupta is back with a bang!! She breathes fire into her character perfectly. Her expressions, her body language, both as the confident doctor to the diffident and broken individual that she has been, are engrossing to watch. Additi looks brilliant!! Who can say that we have seen her play the lead in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, more than 10 years back? Kudos to her for having made such a strong comeback!! Seems like the role of Dr Deepika Sinha was written for Additi…

Vidyut Xavier as Dr Abhay Sathe makes a big impact on the audience. His boyish anger, his personal pain, urge to grow in his profession and of course his tender melting heart is portrayed so very well by Vidyut. The outcome is that we tend to smile when he does smile and cry when he sheds tears.

The subtle comedy that has been placed between Dr Piroz and Dr Ansari is indeed funny. Actors Raghav Dhir and Nishant Singh are spot on!!

Special mention to Kaushik Chakravorty who plays PC, the mentor of Dr Sinha, and Ashwin Mushran the CEO of FMS Hospital. The baggage of ideology clash that they carry has been presented very well.

Rohit Purohit who plays the role of Dr Vikrant, has been shown only in flashbacks as of now. The biggest trigger will happen when this ex-boyfriend of Dr Sinha will enter in the real zone, as competition in FMS Hospital.

The manner in which the issue of women doctors being looked down upon in the mostly male-dominated career path has been effectively shown.

The premise of FMS Hospital has been aesthetically built up with every detail being taken care of. The sequences inside the Operation theatre have been shown precisely well.

Coming to the dialogues, phew!!, they have been hard-hitting, underlining the point of context in a particular scene really well.

If we have to look at the negatives, the only thing that hits our mind is that the show is not a usual 20-minutes airing daily show. It has taken the slot that was occupied by Kaun Banega Crorepati, and holds a one-hour airing time. Though the sequences are gripping enough to hold audiences for this long, we wonder whether the long duration of every episode might end up curbing the interest to watch it in the longer run, from a viewer point of view.

Accepted, that fiction shows on Sony TV, do not rate high. However, Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii has surely been made with a lot of emotions and heart. Considering that this concept is one-of-its-kind in the kind of shows being generated presently across all GECs, this one is sure shot ‘dekho’. If this does not have the kind of reach that any good show should have, we wonder what else will work on the channel!! If as a TV viewer, you are looking to connect to a story, engage with the characters, that too a medical drama, Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii is the right place to be in!!

We credit 4 out of 5 stars to Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii.
